Description
Have you seen what the new Burnside Bridge in Portland will look like? The “Inverted Y” design was picked to replace the century-old span over the Willamette River. On Thursday, Multnomah County leaders made their choice. The 290-foot spire will tower over the east bank of the river with steel cables supporting the bridge over I-5. The new bridge will be more likely to withstand a big earthquake. Other options were more popular in a public online survey, but the 20-person community design advisory group favored the “Inverted Y.” Work is expected to start in 2026 and end as early as 2031. The projected cost is over 900 million dollars.
