Sept. 9 on The Story: With the Portland City Council set to expand next year, this coming November election has drawn more candidates than ever before. But with so many candidates — particularly political newcomers — there are legitimate concerns that many of them don't have enough familiarity with all of the city's biggest issues. Some interest groups in Portland have tried to remedy that by hosting candidate forums: meetings where dozens of candidates can come together and hear from subject matter experts on some of those big issues. Recently, The Story's Pat Dooris attended one of those forums, hosted by the group United for Portland and focused on some of the city's economic challenges.
