Description
Aug. 30 on The Story: Late last year, the Biden administration tapped the Pacific Northwest to be a hub for production of green hydrogen energy. What that means in practical terms is that the federal government is helping to kickstart the construction of power plants in Oregon and Washington that will take water and, using a process called electrolysis, separate the hydrogen from the oxygen so that the former can be used as a clean-burning fuel. Supporters see hydrogen power as a key piece of our renewable energy infrastructure going into the future. But there are detractors, too, who say it's an energy source full of inefficiencies and potentially dangerous safety implications due to hydrogen's inherent volatility.
