Description
Aug. 13 on The Story: For over 30 years, first responders in Multnomah County had a place to take highly intoxicated people where they could safely sober up. That sobering station closed at the end of 2019 — and despite efforts to open a new one since, it hasn't happened. This spring, Commissioner Julia Brim-Edwards presented her plan for a new sobering center, one that seemed to have the backing to go forward. But with the county scrambling to set up a drug deflection program, the timeline for a sobering center has already been pushed back. Brim-Edwards recently sat down with Pat Dooris to talk about how she's still fighting to keep the facility from ending up on the backburner.
