Word is Bond, a Portland nonprofit, is commemorating Juneteenth by holding neighborhood walking tours. Youth ambassadors will share their personal stories growing up in the King and Woodlawn neighborhoods. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they had been freed — two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
