Description
June 7 on The Story: Locally-owned newspapers in Oregon are on incredibly uncertain footing right now, following news from two major media groups this week. First, the longtime owner of Pamplin Media Group announced that he's selling all of his newspapers — of which there are more than a dozen, including the Portland Tribune — to a rapidly expanding company based in Mississippi. Meanwhile, EO Media Group — which operates another dozen newspapers across the state, including the Bend Bulletin — is making big cuts; laying off journalists, cutting print editions and closing some smaller papers entirely. It's not a good time for local journalism. So what can be done to ensure it stays alive?
