Description
May 31 on The Story: We've reported extensively on the years-long slide in ambulance response times in Multnomah County, attributed by provider American Medical Response to a shortage of paramedics. Amid January's ice storm, those times hit a new low — with ambulances unavailable for 2,834 emergency calls throughout the month, something known as "Level Zero." While response times have rebounded somewhat since, proving that the storm was a major cause of the poor performance, the ongoing problem of paramedic shortages and slow or no ambulance response hasn't gone away. In the meantime, mediation talks between county leaders and AMR have been plodding along with no resolution.
