Description
March 26 on The Story: As we covered in our interview with the head of ODOT yesterday, reports of tolling's death have been greatly exaggerated. For the officials concerned with traffic congestion in the Portland metro area, like ODOT Urban Mobility Office Director Brendan Finn, tolls still play a pivotal role in any future plans to clear traffic jams in the region. And over the last few years, much of his office's interest has been on the Portland metro's west side — particularly along U.S. 26 and OR 217, where commuters to some of the region's biggest employers make their daily trek. Traffic along that corridor is only going to get worse as companies like Intel expand, so a lot of different stakeholders have been looking at solutions. And while ODOT may be content to take a more laid-back approach next time around, tolling is going to be in the discussion.
