March 4 on The Story: If you're a customer of Portland General Electric, you likely haven't forgotten that the company got approval to hike its rates in January by about 18%. The new rate went into effect just as people were cranking up their heaters to weather a winter storm that brought temperatures well below freezing and created thousands of power outages. Well, the company is already pushing for another rate hike next year, pointing to investments its making in energy infrastructure. But the company also argues that more extreme weather events — like that January storm — are making energy more expensive across the board.
