Description
Jan. 29 on The Story: Multnomah County's behavioral health system desperately needs help, according to Commissioner Sharon Meieran, and she wants the state of Oregon to step in and do whatever is necessary to straighten it all out. Earlier this month, Meieran published a letter she sent to Gov. Kotek's office and other state officials, asking them to intervene in the county's administration of mental health and substance use services. As with homelessness, Meieran believes that the county has "no plan" for behavioral health and is either unable or unwilling to make one. The Story's Pat Dooris recently sat down with the commissioner to find out why she decided to take this step, one she acknowledges is drastic.
