Description
Jan. 11 on The Story: For over 60 years, Gordon's Fireplace Shop occupied an iconic building in Northeast Portland, built way back in the early 1900s. These days, it's a magnet for vandals — covered in graffiti, with shattered windows and loose bricks. That's in spite of the fact that a developer bought the building in 2017, not long after Gordon's closed up shop. According to the developer, he's had big plans for renovation of the historic building, plans that were delayed again and again by the city of Portland's red tape. City officials indicate that the story isn't that simple.
