Description
Nov. 30 on The Story: Last night we delved into the reasons why ambulance provider American Medical Response says its response times have been severely lagging in Multnomah County. But in nearby Washington County, where AMR took over as provider in August, a rural fire chief has similar concerns. With his firefighters now routinely expected to transport patients to the hospital because AMR ambulances are late or unavailable, Fire Chief Jim Geering has had enough. As of tomorrow, his crews in Forest Grove and Cornelius will be taking themselves out of the equation — still doing an initial response and stabilization, as fire departments usually do, but not transporting patients unless absolutely necessary.
