Description
Nov. 28 on The Story: Earlier this year, a jury found the parent company of electric utility Pacific Power liable for several of the 2020 Labor Day wildfires that ravaged Oregon, ordering the company to pay $90 million to 17 people who lost homes or businesses in the fires. And that's just the beginning — the company is expected to owe many millions more in punitive damages. Since then, PacifiCorp has asked state regulators to defer the costs of the lawsuit for a later date, and most recently asked them to limit the company's liability from future wildfire-related lawsuits. Regulators have pledged to review those requests, but consumer advocates are fighting back, saying Oregon customers shouldn't be footing the bill.
