In 1893, Oregon Governor Sylvester Pennoyer petulantly stole a march on his nemesis, President Grover Cleveland, by issuing a proclamation for the Thanksgiving holiday. But his date for the holiday conflicted with the national observance, meaning Oregon had two Thanksgiving on the books that year.
