Description
Nov. 7 on The Story: For years now, necessary repairs and upgrades for Portland Parks & Recreation facilities have been piling onto a growing backlog, one that's now about 1,200 items long. And the amount of progress that the bureau is able to make on those projects is minimal — this coming year they anticipate being unable to work on any new projects, only a few that are already underway. The reason, as it often does, boils down to money. The parks bureau just doesn't have the money, at least not the kind of money that they can use for these projects. KGW investigative reporter Evan Watson dug into the scale of the problem, compiling all of the projects and how much each one would cost to fix.
