Description
July 25, 2023 on The Story: Since fentanyl hit the streets of Portland, overdose deaths have been climbing every year. That figure overshadows, somewhat, the number of people saved everyday by first responders carrying the overdose reversal drug Narcan. But the nonstop cycle of responding to these calls is wearing on the emergency systems and workers doing the responding, including firefighters. Portland Fire Station 1 in downtown averaged 10 overdose calls every single day last month — and there doesn't appear to be an end in sight.
