Description
The America Waldo Gallery features portraits created by painter Jeremy Okai Davis. Four pieces of an eventual ten pieces are currently on display portraying prominent Black figures from Oregon’s history whose contributions have been forgotten or overlooked. Other artifacts and relics are also on display at the gallery such as the Bogles marriage certificate. Ironically, the Bogles marriage was met with published vitriol in the Oregon Statesman, owned by Asahel Bush, for whom the Bush House Museum is named, which also happens to be his former residence.
“These portraits really tell stories and tell history,” said executive director Matthew Boulay. “Juneteenth is a celebration of our nation's history, and so we wanted to use this date to open the gallery to unveil these portraits and to celebrate this new history of this house going forward, which is a house that is open all and welcome to all.”
