Description
The U.S. Coast Guard used a helicopter Sunday to rescue a person who became stranded on a channel marker after their vessel capsized on the Columbia River near Astoria, according to a news release from the Coast Guard. The crew dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter after a caller reported seeing a boat overturn near Tongue Point, sending two people into the water. A rescue swimmer was lowered from the helicopter and retrieved one person who had taken shelter atop a channel marker. The crew continued to search the scene and found another person floating face-up but unresponsive about 20 minutes later. The second person was again rescued by helicopter, but remained unresponsive when transferred from Coast Guard care.
