Description
Oregon Health & Science University Neuroscientist Larry Sherman and musician Naomi LaViolette are pulling together their musical show, "Every Brain Needs Music."
"You need a brain to play music and to perceive music. And in the act of perceiving and performing and doing all the other things we do with music, it changes the brain physically. It actually benefits brain function," Sherman explained.
At the Aladdin Theater in Southeast Portland, the multi-media lecture is the next in the 'Science On Tap' series. Naomi and five other musicians will explore how music helps the brain.
"Work on both sides of the brain at the same time creates connective tissue between the two hemispheres, which then can help with all sorts of subjects they might be studying: math, English, science," LaViolette said.
