Description
Kathryn Harrison passed away on Sunday at the age of 99. She was known, in particular, for her efforts to restore Native American tribal status. She worked for years to overturn the Termination Act of 1954 which took away federal recognition from 61 tribes in Oregon.
In 2012, she became the first Native American to be honored with the Oregon History Makers award from the Oregon Historical Society. This story was produced at the time to mark the award.
