A recent study by Portland Business Alliance found that the outdoor recreation industry employs over 53,000 people. Democratic Rep. Suzanne Bonamici of Oregon’s 1st District visited Japanese camping brand Snow Peak at their North American headquarters in Northwest Portland on Friday morning. Bonamici also visited Oregon State University’s Center for Outdoor Economy in Southwest Portland. The center has created a degree track to get more people to work in the field of outdoor recreation. The goals of further expanding the industry include getting more people to enjoy the region and take advantage of the mental health benefits of spending time outside.
