Description

The fire that destroyed a 113-year-old Southwest Portland apartment building on Tuesday wasn't the first fire for the old place. In June of 1921, a fire at the May apartments — then just 11 years old — claimed the life of Lt. Karl Gunster, 41. He was the head of the firefighters union.
