Description
April 20, 2023 on The Story: The murder of George Floyd during May of 2020 kicked off racial justice protests throughout the country. In Portland, those protests began happening nightly for many unbroken weeks. But one early night in particular gained its own little share of infamy. June 2, 2020 — known to some as "Tear Gas Tuesday" — saw Portland police flood downtown with CS gas as they aggressively pushed back protesters and smaller groups of rioters. Now a London-based investigative firm has released a study on the amount of tear gas used that night, reporting concentrations that reached thousands of times above harmful levels in some areas of the city.
