March 28, 2023 on The Story: Tonight marks part two of our eastern Oregon listening tour. Last night, we talked to some folks about what they perceive as the cultural differences that divide them from many people on the west side, especially in urban areas. But tonight we're exploring how that divide has been manifesting over the last several years — through the so-called "Greater Idaho" movement, which wants to have the Gem State annex the eastern half of Oregon. Despite living in Oregon her entire life, one John Day woman is an organizer for Greater Idaho. We talked to her about why she sees it as a solution to a growing problem.
