“Subtle Intimacy: Here and There” is the Portland Japanese Garden’s first show of the year. Assistant Director of Exhibitions, Sara Kate Nomura worked with Japanese Artist Rui Sasaki. "In our Pavilion gallery there's an immersive piece that you can walk inside.” Garden visitor Lauren Atempa was awestruck. "Beautiful. There's no other words to explain it." Rui chose several of the garden’s plants to place between glass plates that were super-heated. “So it leaves an impression or 'memory issue', of the plant.” Beyond the Pavilion there are other installations. "A piece that's called 'Amayadori' which means 'taking shelter from the rain'. It's very thin pieces of glass that look like rain.” Open now through June 12th, it’s a garden experience that sparkles.
