March 21, 2023 on The Story: Do you recall where you were when the U.S. invasion of Iraq, dubbed "Operation Iraqi Freedom," began? The Story's Pat Dooris certainly does — he happened to be aboard an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf, where his brother was stationed as a pilot. Tonight we look back at the beginning of the war through the lens of a KGW photographer, cataloguing the experiences of service men and women at the beginning of a record deployment and the outset of an intractable war.
