March 1, 2023 on The Story: Car theft has become a growing problem in Portland. On average, a car gets stolen every 48 minutes somewhere in the city. In an effort to get a better handle on the problem, Portland police turned to OHSU's Knight Cancer Institute, which has a robust data science program. Researchers are helping police refine their own data-gathering, which could help officers identify and stop stolen vehicles more quickly and efficiently.
