Description
Dec. 12, 2022 on The Story: Early this fall, KGW examined the process for civil commitment in Oregon with the "Uncommitted" series. In short, we found that it's very difficult to get someone mental health care if they refuse to participate, amid a crisis of untreated mental illness and addiction on our streets. Around the same time, a group of Oregon leaders began convening a workgroup to examine this precise problem, in hopes that state laws and policies will eventually be changed in a way that both respects civil rights and makes for a more effective means of intervention.
