Description
Dec. 1, 2022 on The Story: In 2017, West Linn's then-chief of police coordinated the wrongful arrest of a Black man, Michael Fesser, as a favor for a buddy. Fesser later sued, and the case provoked a firestorm of investigations. Still, accountability didn't come quickly. More recently, West Linn police led the investigation into a former doctor accused of sexually abusing over 100 women and girls. Despite testimony from dozens of accusers, the case evaporated when a grand jury decided that there wasn't enough evidence to indict. Several accusers say that the agency mishandled the case, contributing to the lack of criminal charges. Now those women are pushing the city council to form a police oversight board that would look into allegations of police misconduct.
