Nov. 28, 2022 on The Story: In western Washington, a long and painstaking investigation finally found a culprit for die-offs of Coho salmon — a chemical preservative commonly found in rubber tires. Despite the knowledge of what is causing the deaths, a regulatory response from the state has not been swift. Meanwhile, an investigation here in Oregon has found that the Columbia Basin's salmon have been contaminated with other toxins, when the fish are both sacred and a dietary staple for local tribes. And these findings could just be the tip of the iceberg.
