Sept. 9, 2022 on The Story: Power companies shut off the lights for roughly 40,000 customers in Oregon today. But why?
After the disastrous 2020 wildfire season, lawmakers made utilities companies figure out where their power lines were most likely to start a fire. The idea was for those companies to know where they should shut off the electricity when it got windy and hot. Portland General Electric and Pacific Power is now putting that plan in place for the first time. Here's how it's going so far.
