Description
The movers behind a new art gallery in Portland’s South Waterfront district engage with seniors who might otherwise remain unstimulated.
Ray Massini is bringing in the first piece of art to show in the new location of the Geezer Gallery.
"Not only are you supporting an artist by buying a piece of their work but you're actually supporting our artist therapy programs,” he said.
The art programs include classes for elders with dementia and Alzheimer’s. The stimulation by creating art is proven to reduce medication amounts and cut down on doctor visits. Candyce Scott administrates the Geezer Gallery arts programs.
"The art classes give them a sense of feeling like they have accomplished something," Scott said.
The Grand Opening will show the art of Ross Mercer in the new retail space on Moody Ave in the South Waterfront district.
