Aug. 5, 2022 on The Story: In 2021, the Oregon legislature passed a law meant to address the impact of wildfires in Oregon. Part of the law led to the creation of a state map assessing wildfire risk in every area, determining whether property owners needed to take more steps to protect themselves from a potential fire. But there was an unintended consequence — many people, especially in rural Oregon, said that their insurance rates skyrocketed, or that their insurers dropped them entirely. This week, after being inundated with complaints, state officials decided to withdraw the map. But is it gone for good?
