With two new comedy clubs open since January, including one launched by comedian Gad Elmaleh, Marseille hopes to become a new hub for stand-up comedy in the region and contribute to the professionalization of comedians, away from the Parisian stronghold where the competition is fierce. "Often we say that there is a Parisian stand-up, Parisian ways of speaking, always the same melody, whereas in Marseille there are many different identities," says Isabelle Guiot, a comedian from Marseilles.
