On Holy Saturday, ahead of one of the most important Christian holidays — Easter — Russians gather near their local church. People prepare and bring kulich (a sweet Easter bread with glaze and raisins), as well as brightly painted eggs — symbols of the holiday and new life. The priest sprinkles the food with holy water while reciting a prayer.
