Bolivian artists gather on Good Friday at the Cochiraya sandbanks near Oruro, about 200 kilometers south of La Paz, to create sand sculptures depicting the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as well as other biblical figures. "The materials, sand, water, and glue, are both amazing and frustrating at the same time, because the artwork can fall apart from overflow, or because the sand is too dry and lacks moisture," explains Benjamin Alejandro Santander, visual arts student.
