Description
Colorado lawmakers are considering a bill that would require emergency departments, including labor and delivery departments, to care for patients regardless of their ability to pay and other factors.
Kiera Hatton, Political Director with COBALT Advocates, said the legislation would require hospitals care for patients regardless of whether they can pay, if they're undocumented or if they're pregnant and in need of an abortion to save the mom's life.
State lawmakers modeled Senate Bill 25-130 after the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, which requires the same thing. That law has been catching a lot of heat in the years since Roe v. Wade was overturned.
