An immigration judge in Louisiana gave the legal team for student activist Mahmoud Khalil more time as they try to free him. Khalil is a permanent legal resident who is married to a US citizen. He played a central role in protests against the Israel, Hamas war that disrupted Columbia University's campus last year. The Trump Administration is trying to deport him under a rarely used statute. Mahmoud was initially taken into custody in New York City more than two weeks ago. He remains at an ICE detention center in Louisiana.
