Description
FORECAST BY: 9NEWS Weather Impact Team Meteorologist Chris Bianchi
We've got another mild day ahead with a high near 70° in Denver under mainly sunny skies, but it'll turn a bit breezy this afternoon ahead of our next storm system.
That'll lead to high fire danger east and south of Denver, where gusts could reach 35-40 mph this afternoon. Be smart today, avoid anything with a spark outdoors!
Otherwise, our next strong but fast-moving storm will arrive tonight, with mountain snow spreading into the San Juans after dark tonight, along with some gusty winds. Those snow showers will push east overnight, and a potent low will develop on the lee side of the Rockies tomorrow morning.
That low will kick up fierce winds, with 40-50 mph gusts possible in Denver through the day tomorrow (expect a few delays at Denver International Airport as a result), and some 60+ mph gusts east of I-25, where a High Wind Watch is up for Friday. That's where we could see our main travel disruptions on Friday.
Rain and snow will push through the Eastern Plains, with little or no accumulation for most. However, any snow that falls could create brief blizzard-like conditions, along with blowing dust considering how dry it's been lately. That means that travel on I-70 or I-76 north and east of Denver tomorrow looks rough.
We'll clear out partially on Friday, though lunar eclipse viewing tonight looks at least partially shrouded by the clouds. It looks about 50-50 as to whether or not we'll be able to see it.
Denver will hit the 60s on Sunday and the 70s on Monday ahead of what could be a pretty good thump of snow on Wednesday morning. We've got a potential impact alert day as a result.
We'll keep you posted on a busy forecast over the next few days!
