Snowpack levels in Colorado are displaying variations between the northern and southern regions of the state. Typical of a La Niña pattern, Colorado's central and northern mountains are reporting near-average snowpack levels, while southern areas are experiencing concerning deficits. As of March 5, areas north of U.S. Highway 50 have snowpack levels around the average for this time of year. However, the situation changes dramatically in the southern part of Colorado. Southern Colorado mountain ranges are facing low snowpack levels, including areas of the San Juan Mountains, Rio Grande basin, and parts of the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountains. "We are really lagging in terms of our snowpack," said 9NEWS Weather Impact Team meteorologist Chris Bianchi of the levels in the southern mountains.
