The 9NEWS Investigates team found out the case against Jim Purdy, 76, is even more unique because of what happened to him when he spent weeks inside the Jefferson County Jail back in 2023. Purdy fell over and over again. Eventually, his injuries became so severe that jail staff sent him to a hospital. He eventually died. His family filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging that the jail, and its privately run health care team, failed to prevent the falls.
