Description
An incoming snowstorm could drop over six inches of snow in parts of the Denver metro area. The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for Thursday night and Friday morning.
A Winter Weather Advisory includes Denver and the majority of the metro area, running from 5 p.m. Thursday through 8 a.m. Friday.
The mountains get the snow first, starting up later Thursday morning and lasting most of the day. Between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, the snow will move down into the Denver area. The foothills and Palmer Divide west and south of Denver will see the snow first, but we could have some issues for the Thursday afternoon commute, especially the back half of it.
Most areas in on the Front Range, including the Denver metro area, will see 2-5 inches of snow. The foothills west and south of Denver could see 6 inches.
Areas north and east of Denver may only see an inch or two of snow, while Fort Collins and Greeley may only get a trace to an inch from this storm.
The steadiest and heaviest snow will fall overnight Thursday into Friday morning, with the snow ending by mid-morning on Friday. Expect lots of slick spots on that Friday morning drive.
After this storm, temperatures in Colorado will spike quickly into the 50s by Saturday and 60s by Sunday into next week.
