Researchers looked at data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and found that the number of deaths in which cold weather was an underlying or contributing cause, more than doubled between 1999 and 2022. Researchers believe the deaths have increased because people are not used to extreme winter weather, which impacts the body's response.
