Description
Having plants in your home or office can make you feel more comfortable, and soothed. Who doesn’t like having beautiful plants around?
If you’re a beginning plant parent, try these plants to begin with:
· Pothos is a no-fuss, heart shaped vining plant that is easy to propagate. Don’t let it grow just one long crazy stem. Trim it, put the cutting in a jar with water, place it in a sunny windowsill and you can make more Pothos!
· Spider plant is adaptable, very popular and it makes babies so you can easily propagate more plants to share! There are 2 varieties: emerald green and the variegated green/white.
· Mother-in-Law Tongue (also known as Snake Plant) is low maintenance and while more light will encourage it to grow it tolerates low light well. It doesn’t like to be overwatered…that will cause root rot.
If your space is low light, try these plants:
· Chinese Evergreen is one of the most durable indoor plants and it’s ideal for a beginning gardener.
· ZZZ plant is almost impossible to kill. And the new black variety adds drama to your plant collection.
· Calathea has colorful flecks of color, this is also a non-toxic plant and is pet safe.
If you’re a seasoned plant parent and want to expand your houseplant collection, new or more rare species are now available and are coveted by plant enthusiasts. To afford rare and expensive houseplant varieties, consider starting with smaller plants. These are often much more affordable than mature specimens, and you can gradually grow them into larger, more established plants over time. With patience and proper care, these smaller plants will flourish and may even become valuable additions to your collection.
Plants release oxygen which may improve the quality of indoor air, and they create a calming, nature-inspired atmosphere that brightens even the coldest days.
And don’t forget a moisture meter!!! This will ensure that you’re properly watering your plants, which is essential to not only ensure the plant receives the right amount of moisture to thrive but will help to prevent root rot and reduce the chances of insect infestation.
Plant therapy is a real thing! Sharing your living or working space with living, “breathing” plant life can make your environment a happier, healthier place! Pay a visit to your local garden center to boost your mood and houseplant collection.
