UCHealth partnered with Thompson Valley EMS to administer "whole blood" directly to trauma victims in the field. The hope is this can drastically increase chances of survival. Whole blood is almost like what's in our veins right now. It contains red blood cells, plasma, platelets, etc. - a lot of what can be extremely important to patients in need. In the past - that whole blood couldn't be removed from temperature-controlled hospital environments.
