Description
The Montrose County Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out what happened to dozens of cattle last seen grazing the Uncompahgre Plateau, southwest of Montrose. The sheriff's office said around 180 cattle, mostly calves, are unaccounted for.
The cattle come from multiple ranches, according to the sheriff’s office. The cattle spend the summer and fall grazing the Uncompahgre Plateau, which is in the Uncompahgre National Forest. The sheriff's office said when the ranchers went to bring them down for the winter, they noticed dozens were missing.
The sheriff's office said it learned about the situation on Dec. 4 and has been working with the Colorado Brand Board to investigate. It's unclear if the cattle were stolen.
The cattle's disappearance is a big loss for ranchers. The cattle are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to the sheriff's office.
If you have any information about the missing cattle, call the Montrose County Sheriff's Office at 970-249-9110.
