Description
The Five Points Jazz Festival, a mainstay of Denver's annual event calendar for more than 20 years, will not return in 2025, Denver Arts and Venues said Thursday.
The city agency said the festival will be replaced by "a fund to provide local, year-round programming that honors the history of jazz in Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood."
"In partnership with the Five Points Business Improvement District and the office of Councilman Darrell Watson, DAV will distribute $225,000 through grant-making to businesses, nonprofits and creatives that present jazz and jazz-related programs throughout the year," the agency said in a news release.
The Five Points Jazz Activation Fund will open for applications early next year, the agency said.
"The move to the year-round grant program is the result of changing neighborhood needs," the release said. "And, rising event expenses meant more spent on production costs over funding to artists, making the single day festival a less practical means of achieving the festival’s original goals."
The free-to-attend festival, traditionally held in May or June along Welton Street in Five Points, has a storied history of showcasing local and national jazz musicians, and celebrating the music, culture and roots of the historic neighborhood. The 2024 festival featured more than 30 performances throughout the day, as well as food, drink and artisan vendors.
