The Tennessee Valley Authority told people late Friday night below the Nolichucky Dam to evacuate after rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Helene caused severe flooding in eastern Tennessee. As of Saturday morning, the TVA said the Nolichucky River had crested and that the dam was holding. TVA officials said the Nolichucky River crested 8 feet over the previous record.
