Wildfire smoke from the several fires burning in Colorado and on the West Coast continues to turn skies smoky on Thursday. The Colorado Department of Public Health issued an Action Day Alert Wednesday at 4 p.m. that is expected to stay in effect until at least 4 p.m. on Thursday for smoke that will make visibility tough and air quality poor. The smoke is primarily coming from the Alexander Mountain Fire that's burned more than 7,600 acres west of Loveland in Larimer County, and fires burning in California. The Stone Canyon Fire in Boulder County and Quarry Fire in Jefferson County are causing heavy smoke in the surrounding areas. Thursday is a bad day for spending a long time outdoors, and anyone who does should consider wearing a mask to limit smoke intake. Real-time air quality can be found on the state health department's website and the U.S. Air Quality Index's website. 9NEWS meteorologist Chris Bianchi says air quality should start to improve by Friday due to incoming subtropical moisture and a switch the wind direction.
