The man who narrowly escaped death when a bullet lodged in the chain he was wearing around his neck was shot by his father, according to court documents obtained by 9NEWS. The shooting was reported on Oswego Street in Commerce City on May 28. According to the arrest affidavit, police received a call from a neighbor who reported shots were fired and that no one had been hurt. As they responded, they learned someone had been "grazed" by a bullet. The neighbor reported that the victim's mother came to his home and asked him to call 911 because her ex-husband was threatening their son with a gun. He said he could hear the suspect, later identified as Richard Hillman, yelling at the victim and saw that he had a gun. He said he yelled for Hillman to put the gun down and heard two gunshots. The man said he told Hillman he needed to "quit shooting" and that Hillman replied, "I'm done," and placed the gun on top of some boxes in the garage of his home. The neighbor said he took the gun and placed it in his garden to prevent any further violence. When officers arrived, they contacted the victim sitting in a vehicle. The victim showed the officer his neck where he had been shot. The officer saw a small puncture wound on the left side of the man's neck and observed blood on the man's neck, clothing and necklace. According to the affidavit, the bullet had lodged in between the links of a necklace the victim was wearing but still had enough force to puncture a hole in his neck.
